I have one large masonry bag filled with sand, with a small amount of gravel mixed in, and one metal trash can full of more sand. The sand is intended for landscaping/masonry, not fine enough for a sandbox or such.
You'll probably need more masonry bags (available at most hardware stores, about 50 cents each) to transport the sand that's in the trash bin. Too heavy to carry all at once.
